The Forsyth Working Family Partnership (FWFP) had plans to expand the closed disability site but the new director at that location didnt want the persons with disabilities pigeon holed and felt they should be able to go to any VITA site. The director did publicize the VITA sites to his clients. The FWFP VITA sites did complete 266 returns for persons with disabilities.

The Easter Seals Community Work Incentive Coordinator provides one on one counseling for persons with disabilities who are thinking about returning to the workforce.

We participated in our first veterans stand down although it was actually held in Greensboro; veterans from 80+ miles away were transported to the stand down. The table was staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers, some of which were IRS employee volunteers. We worked with a bankruptcy specialist who was back in the office and she would fax us W-2 transcripts so we could assist veterans in completing their current and prior year tax returns. We answered tax questions and inquiries for about 127 veterans and prepared 21 tax returns for an additional 12 veterans.

Plans for FY 2010: Increase publicity of our VITA sites to organization in the Winston-Salem area who work with persons with disabilities. Increase the number of veterans we assist at the stand down through better utilization of volunteer time management (More volunteers in the morning and less in the afternoon). We also plan to partner with TAS who will be able to acquire transcripts and provide other tax relief to the veterans.
