Disability Initiative Workgroup
The Delaware Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign (EITC) empowers low-income individuals and families to become economically self-sufficient by directly increasing their income through federal and state tax credits and providing access to asset-building. In conducting the program we are intentional in our efforts to include and provide quality service to persons with disabilities and their families. In our choice of service locations we ensure that each site is handicap accessible. At each site our greeters are highly sensitive to persons requiring special needs and extend courtesies necessary to make them feel welcome and trusting of the services that they visit us for. In addition, our staff training program includes sessions designed to aid our tax preparers in ways of assisting persons that are hearing or visually impaired.
Goodwill Industries is a major partner with us and we have expanded our sites within their network as well as having a number of their employees serve as volunteers. We are also working with several Colleges and Universities to serve students with disabilities. In addition, we are working with the United Way to secure additional partners and all efforts are being made to increase the participation of organizations that serve persons with disabilities and their families. We have scheduled several promotional events for volunteers and customers .In all cases an emphasis will be placed on encouraging organizations that serve disabilities to become involved and to support the EITC program.
