Disability Initiative Workgroup

Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan continues to be a partner in the Northwest Michigan Tax Coalition. 2009 was the second year that Goodwill Industries hosted a tax preparation site. There were 100 returns prepared for the people with disabilities at this site and all of them were electronically filed. Goodwill Industries, United Cerebral Palsy, and the Disability Network distributes information on EITC, other tax credits, direct deposit, and various other asset building opportunities.

Northwest Michigan Human Services Agency, lead the Northwest Michigan Tax Coalition. Efforts were increased to provide services to people with disabilities and outreach efforts to partners who serve people with Disabilities. These partners include: Disability Network of Northwest Michigan, Community Living Centers, Northern Lakes Community Mental Health, etc. Additional contact and services provision were given Native American Indians in the local Tribes in the ten county service area.
