Disability Initiative Workgroup

A relationship was established with Martha Gabehart, Director of the Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns that allows the use of their statewide list serve to forward tax law updates, any events scheduled as well as the NDI newsletter. The list serve reaches over 90 organizations (throughout Kansas) that are involved with disability issues. The service has been used on three occasions. Kansas has approximately 63,264 individuals diagnosed with mental retardation/developmental disabilities. Partner ABC Coalition contacted the Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens, Inc. (TARC) early in the filing season to explore return filing assistance. Arrangements were made and return prep service was provided to over 100 TARC clients. TARC is a full service disability organization based in Topeka, providing children and adult services, including employment. TARC reaches over 1,400 unduplicated clients, plus their families.
