Disability Initiative Workgroup

C.A.S.H. is a well established community coalition in Rochester, NY (Monroe County), preparing both federal and state tax returns for 12,700 households claiming $20 million in refunds and credits, of which $10 million were federal & NYS EITC, during the 2009 tax season. For several years, we have engaged in outreach to organizations serving workers with disabilities. During 2009, we operated a VITA site that participated in the DeafTax VITA pilot.

During filing season 2010 we will support the operation of a VITA site within the Employment Connections program of the Rochester Rehabilitation Center, Inc. In addition we will partner with the Center for Disability Rights (which is affliated with the Regional Center for Independent Living) to operate an intake site for the DeafTax.com VITA pilot.

We will work with the Center for Disability Rights to identify which of our 16 sites are accessible to persons with disabilities - they will also assist with extensive outreach to persons with disabilities regarding VITA services. We will also seek out opportunities to attract local media to new sites with a focus on serving persons with disabilties.
