Disability Initiative Workgroup

Community Action Partnership of Riverside County (CAP Riverside) has been identified by the Riverside County Board of Supervisor as the county’s official anti-poverty agency. Though new to the Real Economic Impact (REI) Tour, CAP Riverside’s Earned Income Tax Credit Program (EITC) has provided free countywide tax preparation for the past seven years through fourteen Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites, of which three are in the City of Riverside boundaries (CAP Riverside Mobile Unit, Eastside Cybrary, and Casa Blanca Family Learning Center.) CAP Riverside’s extensive partner network actively engages in facilitating free tax preparation, asset-building strategies, and community resource referrals for low-income households.

While all members of CAP Riverside’s EITC partner network serve veterans and disabled residents, a REI Tour Workgroup of six to eight of these partners will be convened and facilitated by CAP Riverside to focus on outreach to these targeted populations. Workgroup partners will assist CAP Riverside in securing: facilities for special events; interpreters; resource vendors; and expanded outreach.

CAP Riverside and its REI Workgroup will focus on the following activities and services:

  1. hold at least three combined tax preparation, financial education, asset-building, and community resources events during filing season 2009;
  2. provide at VITA sites community referrals to asset-building programs such as CAP Riverside’s Individual Development Accounts (IDAs) - -  a matched savings incentive program for low-income households;
  3. ensure that all VITA sites are Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant and open through April 15th;
  4. provide interpretation services for the hearing-impaired; and
  5. include TTY telephone number(s) in all outreach materials
