Disability Initiative Workgroup
For the current filing season, we have been working with our primary volunteer return preparation program partner, AARP Tax-Aide, to verify that all sites were accessible to persons with disabilities. This information has been included on our statewide volunteer site lists and distributed to several organizations throughout the state including 211, The ARC of Multnomah-Clackamas, CASH Oregon, Portland Habilitation Center, and more. We have also made IRS Publication 3966, Living and Working with Disabilities, available at many of our volunteer sites.
Last fall, IRS-SPEC became a member of an emerging coalition for persons with disabilities, called the Connecting Communities Coalition. The coalition has identified ten goals to pursue as it moves forward, including educating persons with disabilities about receiving all of the tax credits and benefits they are entitled to.
