The Mobile, AL area is new to the REI tour and the SPEC office that service us has recently open a new location in Mobile, AL. All the VITA locations serve those with disabilities but no specific attention has been directed to inform and educate those with disabilities about benefits they qualify for under the US tax system. United Way Community Partners that serve the disability community will be educated on tax assistance and benefits for their clients. Listed are the community partners that provide services in Mobile, Washington or Clarke counties: Epilepsy Foundation, Goodwill Easter Seals, Mobile Association of Retarded Citizens (MARC), Mobile Association for the Blind, Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Mobile Chapter, Southwest Alabama Mental Health Mental Retardation Board, United Cerebral Palsy, Clarke County ARC, Mulherin Home and Education Center for Independence (ECI). These agencies will assist in getting the wordout to their clients and their caregivers as well as participate in any educational events that are planned. We will also reachout to the Independent Living Center that serves this area.

As we get our partners and the VITA volunteers organized around the REI tour, we plan to have a tax prepartion day(s) that target those with disabilities. Advertisement is planned using newsletters, websites and other media outlets of the agencies listed above. We also plan to work on financial literacy literature for distribution to those with disabilities. Events held by the partners will include information about VITA   serving those with disabilities and their family members. We plan to partner with the Mobile Advisory Commission for the disabled that is sponsored by the Mayor's Office to raise awareness and increase visibility of the Disability Initiative.
