KC CASH Coalition has been in existence for five years to support the tax and asset building needs of low-income constituents in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. For the 2009 tax season, the Coalition is working hard to implement special outreach to people with disabilities. Specifically, as part of seventeen total free tax preparation sites across the Kansas City Metropolitan area, KC CASH will have a roving free tax preparation site at Alphapointe Association for the Blind, the only comprehensive rehabilitation and education center for the blind and visually impaired in Missouri. Alphapointe employs over 100 blind and visually impaired individuals, which comprises over 50% of its workforce. In 2010 KC CASH volunteers will provide free tax preparation for Alphapointe's employees onsite at their manufacturing facility in Kansas City, MO. KC CASH volunteers will also staff a roving site for the Coalition for Independence, which provides independent living skills training, assistance with employment andcommunity advocacy to people with disabilities in 15 counties in Kansas and Missouri.

KC CASH has hired a full-time Program and Training Coordinator who has made great strides to reach out to the disability community in the last 12 months. Her efforts have led to the inclusion of the two new disability community partners as members of our Coalition and working, involved volunteers. KC CASH believes that one of the key factors in reaching people with disabilities with free tax preparation and asset building services is to make our services as convenient and mobile as possible to reach all parts of the low-income community, including people with disabilities, in convenient, accessible places. The Coalition is continuing to seek out new partnerships, financial resources and human capital to make these kinds of accessible services more prevalent in our work.
